Hand to Hand Combat About the Rules

You select the attacking unit and then click any of the attacking modifiers (some are mutually exclusive). Then select the defending unit and the modifiers associated. Finally click the Combat Button to run the action. A modal dialog appears giving the results of the event and the impact on the units. Hand to Hand combat is naturally enough considered to be simultaneous. The morale outcomes are also determined for action in the next activation phase.

The rules engine takes into account the number of characters;the morale; the formation that they are in; and, the calibre of the unit ( Veteran/ Experienced/ Raw). It also offers advantages for units that are charging and additional impetus for the horses. Heavy cavalry and lancers charging will get additional benefits. The general assumption is that an infantry unit in line will always break if it is successfully charged by cavalry( i.e if small arms fire does not disuade them). It is also assumed that cavalry, if they are able to make contact with a square, will become Shaken if they do not cause the sqaure to break and rout on the contact move.

Infantry columns have a small advantage against infantry lines and in such combats. The attacking and defending unit status and current strength is updated in system storage for subsequent moves
